The Risk Of Skin Cancer From Tanning Booths

People get really beautifully tanned skin from tanning booths but they also develop skin cancer from tanning booths. It is no secret that you can get skin cancer from tanning booths. Tanning beds emit more UV radiation than the sun.

The UV rays are more damaging to the body in a shorter span of time while using a tanning booth than when sun bathing. In fact the UVA rays that are emitted in the tanning booth are two to three times more powerful and deadly than the rays from the sun.

Developing skin cancer from tanning booths is documented. The first symptom of sun exposure is when the skin becomes pink, red, or blistered from a sun burn. Some people develop photosensitivity including sun poisoning that is suspected of being initiated by tanning booth exposure.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer. The meteoric rise in skin cancer cases has been traced directly to the increased popularity of using tanning booths for a quick tan. The rays from a tanning bed are UVA rays rather than the UV rays that come from the sun. The UVA rays are not intended to burn the skin. However, the UVA rays go deeper into the skin surface and cause more damage.

The effects of the UV radiation from the sun or the UV radiation of tanning beds each provide some danger to the individuals. Ultra violet radiation causes all three types of skin cancer. Some of the most common types of skin cancer include malignant melanoma , basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.

Not only do the tanning booth cause cancer, they also cause damage to the DNA. This damaged DNA can lead to a form of mutation within the body's systems. When the DNA is damaged, the defense system of the body is unable to function properly.

Exposure to UVA radiation changes cellular structure of the body. Continued exposure to these rays compromise the body's defense system leaving the body more vulnerable to cancer. At the expense of their health, individuals continue to go to tanning booths. Being fashion conscious will result in thousands of new cases of skin cancer every year.

It is an interesting observation that people tan to look young and glamorous but the long term effects of exposure to the ultraviolet rays will damage DNA and also damages the skin to the point that wrinkles occur more readily in people who are frequent sun bathers and users of tanning booths

It is always a good idea if people insist on going out into the sunlight or into tanning booths to wear some protective eye wear. Eye damage is another critical effect of using tanning beds. The ultraviolet rays can produce cataracts. Long term exposure to the sun's rays or exposure in a tanning booth can lead to blindness.

Also UV exposure compounds another problem a with tissue growth on the white parts of the eyes. Medical studies linked the extended exposure of the eyes to UV rays to patients with damaged retinas and macula degeneration.

The grim statistic shows that thousands of beautiful people will die from skin cancer. That statistic is a horrific picture of wasted lives pursuing a fantasy. But people continue to go into to tanning salons by the millions, knowing that their very lives are at risk.
